Taking Control: Claudine’s Journey Through Digital Inclusion

Claudine first discovered TMDF through her GP, where she learned about the weekly social clubs.  After attending a few sessions, she became a regular, enjoying the lively gatherings and the chance to build friendships in a fun and supportive environment.  Though she loved her time there, Claudine faced ongoing health challenges, which required frequent visits to the doctor.  Managing these appointments and prescriptions was a struggle, as she wasn’t familiar with online systems.  Her daughter helped her with these tasks, but Claudine often felt she was relying too much on others.

When she heard about TMDF’s digital inclusion sessions, Claudine saw an opportunity to gain more independence and agreed to give it a try.  She wasn’t overly familiar with technology but was eager to learn how it could help her manage her healthcare.

"Before the sessions, I had no idea I could do all that stuff online. I used to depend on my daughter to book my appointments and remind me about prescriptions, which made me feel a bit of a burden. “

The session, designed for Claudine and others in similar situations, introduced them to online health services and showed them how to use these tools independently.  Claudine learned to access her NHS online account, where she could request prescriptions, receive updates about her care, and view her health records.  With her daughter’s guidance, (she attended the session too), Claudine also got familiar with booking appointments through her GP’s online system and navigating their website on her own tablet.

"Now, I can log into the NHS app, book my own appointments, and check when my prescriptions are ready. It’s nice to finally have some control over something so important in my life, and it’s taken a huge weight off my shoulders."

Although she still relies on her daughter occasionally for more complex tasks, Claudine now feels confident managing her healthcare independently.  The experience has boosted her personal confidence, making her more resilient and assured in her ability to handle things on her own.  Looking forward, she’s excited for the next digital inclusion session, eager to explore new ways technology can help her stay independent and connected.
