Jamie’s world had quietly shrunk over time. Days felt long, and the simple comfort of laughter and company had faded into the background. Jamie told us:
Hearing about The McCarthy-Dixon Foundation’s (TMDF’s) Monday Club from a neighbour felt hopeful, lucky, even. Held every week at The Swan & Helmet Pub, this club brings the community together with lunch, hot drinks, live music and games, all in a warm, welcoming setting.
Jamie would later admit that arriving on that first afternoon was the hardest part, he stood outside for a few moments, quietly talking himself out of walking through the door. But the moment Jamie stepped inside, the friendly vibe was unmistakable, people chatting over lunch, music from local artists, and volunteers ready with a smile. He explained:
Week after week, Jamie found real connection: sharing a joke over bingo, tapping toes to live music, and building friendships that felt genuine and steady.
Mondays have since become something Jamie truly looks forward to, replacing feelings of isolation with a sense of belonging. He told our team:
