TMDF’s Mobile Community Shop Officially Launches

We were delighted to officially launch our Mobile Community Shop at Northampton Market Square on Friday 15 May 2026, following a brilliant first few weeks out in the community.

A huge thank you to Councillor Charlie Hastie, Housing and Communities Cabinet Member at West Northamptonshire Council, and Councillor Mike Hallam, our new Mayor of Northampton, for joining us and cutting the ribbon to mark the occasion. Their support means a great deal as we continue bringing affordable food, everyday essentials and community support closer to local people across Northamptonshire.

The Mobile Community Shop is TMDF’s new service, designed to bring good-value food and household essentials directly into local communities. The shop is already out and about every Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, visiting a range of locations including schools, community centres, community spaces and Northampton Market Square.

The aim is simple: to make everyday essentials more accessible to the people and families who need them most, in a way that feels practical, welcoming and dignified.

Shoppers can access a range of items, including food cupboard staples, fresh items where available, toiletries, household basics and other everyday goods at discounted prices. The shop works on a points-based system, with items labelled between 1 and 5 points. Customers can buy 9 points for £5 or 18 points for £10, then use those points to choose the items they need. Most everyday items are only 1–2 points, and pre-packed fresh fruit and vegetable bags are also available for £2.50.

The service forms part of TMDF’s wider mission to support local people facing hardship, while also helping create more sustainable pathways out of crisis. Even better, every purchase helps us give back, as 100% of the money raised is reinvested into supporting communities across Northamptonshire.

A huge part of bringing this project to life has been the kindness and practical help of our friends at Deane Roofing & Cladding Limited. Ronan, Paul, Noel and the team generously donated and installed custom-fit shelving for the vehicle at no cost to TMDF. Their contribution to the vehicle fit-out helped ensure that more of TMDF’s funds could go straight back into supporting the local communities we serve.

Deane Roofing have been wonderful supporters of TMDF since our charity began in 2020, offering donations, practical help, time, skills and expertise whenever they can. We are incredibly grateful for their continued generosity and friendship.

We look forward to seeing our Mobile Community Shop continue to grow, reach more people and bring practical, affordable support to the communities that need it most.

Please keep an eye on our social media pages for our weekly locations and times, and to see where the Mobile Community Shop will be next. You can also find out more about the service and how it works by visiting: https://mccarthydixon.org.uk/mobile-community-shop/
